Facebook and Instagram Changes
Facebook users are spending less time scrolling and Facebook is performing a news feed overhaul for mobile and desktop. To get your message across to prospects and customers you will have to improve your organic reach. Below are the changes and the seven things you can do to improve organic reach as the new Ranking Signals are implemented.
Instagram largest change is to remove likes and video views from public view (you can still see these statistics on your page insights) and focus on shares, not likes.
The Facebook February 11, 2020 Rule Change
There was a rule change earlier this month that impacts the creating of Facebook ads for housing, credit and job opportunity industries on Facebook. These advertisers based in the US now see an option to mention that they are running ads in a “Special Ad Category”. They will have to categorize their ads accordingly and identify any active campaigns created before December 4, 2019, if they belong in the Special Ad Category.
For all other businesses make sure that you have the “Special Ad Category” option unchecked for all your campaigns.
Facebook Mobile Newsfeed Changes
1,500 posts can appear in every news feed each day! You may have noticed that the mobile view on Facebook has changed with a smaller image and less text above the fold (what a person can see above the image). Because of this change, it is important more than ever to place the most important copy in the top two lines.
Facebook Organic Targeting Changes
Organic targeting is a free posting on your page. The reach on your post is determined by the Facebook algorithm. Due to Facebook’s new feature businesses, organic targeting will need to be relevant and high-quality content. The more people engage with your post the more reach Facebook will allow.
Facebook’s Four Ranking Signals
With organic reach decreasing each year (2015, 5.4% reach to 2018, 1.2% reach) Facebook will be using four Ranking Signals to determine how many Facebook users can see your organic posts.
- How long a business has been on Facebook will receive a higher ranking.
- Percent of followers engaging with your posts and page in general.
- Consistency and timing of posts.
- Engagement with customers.
Improve Organic Reach with the New Ranking Signals
We always mention to clients that Facebook posts have a better engagement of they are more of a personal nature such as awards, giving back to the community, new products, office information to name a few.
There are seven things you can do to improve organic reach as the new Ranking Signals are implemented:
- Avoid clickbait.
- Do not click on your website (Save that communication for email newsletters to prospects and customers – we can help create your newsletters!).
- Post inspiring and interesting posts that the user will want to share.
- Quality content is now videos and images with no outbound links.
- Know when to post day and time for best engagement.
- Reply to customers’ comments, messages, and reviews within 24-hours.
- Leverage low-cost ads (NOT BOOSTS). Use Facebook ads to improve reach: organic and paid.
